Poetry Wednesday! Why Not?

Some sort of Vortex

I know this road all too well.
A desert highway
filled with mirages
reflecting
pulsing clouds and southwestern dreams,
I drive around desperately trying to help her fall asleep.

A little ladybug
snuggled in her car seat,
crocodile tears salted upon her sweet cheeks,
this tiny human teeming with mystery.
My coffee cup filled with old fashion lullabies; stale radio tunes pour out the windows
wind scoops up the leftover sound waves.

Endless sagebrush fields surround us
the Sandia Mountains become smaller in my rear-view mirror,
her cries now echo in the wilderness of my heart forever.
I sneak a peek to see if her eyes are shut

Closing in on us, the twilight sky swiftly encroaches
sporadic silhouettes of prickly pear cactus blossoms.
Tumble weeds float by like ghostly spirits roaming the earth in search
seeking a solution to the epidemic of modern- life-loneliness.

My lips dry from exhaustion
my ego
humbled by the kingdom of motherhood and what it means to become selfless.
I know this road all too well,
yet not well enough to navigate unpredictably

Cerulean hues of twilight turn to shades of midnight blue
Stars twinkle like fireflies inside a dome shaped thought-room.
At last
she drifts to sleep
Tap-dancing with teddy bears
playing tambourines with dream weavers
singing with the night keepers.
